Be a Business Rock Star
We all want to make a positive difference in this world alongside attaining money, fame, notoriety, and power but we seldom want to put in the hard-work and dedication necessary to attain such. I read an article on Inc.com earlier this week that impacted me so greatly that I’ve read every day since then. It briefly highlights what it takes to be a “business rock star” or an immediately recognizable figure in the realm of business with several aspiring wannabes.
“Some business people are like rock stars: Richard, Warren, Bill, the late Steve—all rock stars.
Why are they like rock stars? Even without the last names, you immediately recognize them.
And just like rock stars, many people dream of being like them.
It’s certainly possible to become a rock star and achieve excellence in just about any field we choose, but excellence comes with a price. Natural talent only takes us so far. Excellence requires incredible focus, massive effort, and an almost superhuman drive and work ethic.”
And that is exactly what sets the rock stars or extraordinary beings from the rest of the pack. That last statement sums it all up and bears repeating. “Excellence requires incredible focus, massive effort, and an almost superhuman drive and work ethic.”
The author goes on to describe a close friend of his who is a prominent public-speaker. This guy spends 100 hours rehearsing a speech that he’s spent several weeks writing before he’s ready to present it. But when he does, it’s a stellar performance.
This is what we have to realize.
Greatness, excellence and success are not free. But anyone can pay for it (in any field) through hard-work, perseverance, and dedication.
